Red Sox promote infielder Christian Koss to Triple-A Worcester
On Tuesday, the Red Sox announced a slew of promotions across their minor league system. One of those was infielder Christian Koss, who was promoted from Portland to Worcester.
Koss has had a down year at the plate carrying a .224 batting average and a .619 OPS. His last game as a member of the Sea Dogs was a memorable one, as he went 2-4 with a home run and two RBIs against New Hampshire on Sunday.
His defense has always been the best part of his game. SoxProspects.com wrote this about his fielding:
“Above-average defensive profile. Sure-handed. Solid footwork, quick transfer, makes flashy plays. Fluid actions, soft hands. Comfortable going to both sides and plays his angles well. Good instincts, almost always makes the right play and is always thinking ahead. Has played second base, third base, and shortstop in pro ball and began to see a little bit of time in center field in 2022.”
Koss was starting at shortstop every day for the Sea Dogs, but after his spot was about to be taken by Marcello Mayer, the move makes every bit of sense. The promotion will give Worcester depth in the infield and allow Ryan Fitzgerald and Nick Sogard to play other positions as well in the outfield.
The Riverside, California native was acquired in a trade in 2020 from the Colorado Rockies. He spent all of 2022 with Portland as well as the first two months of this season.
