Red Sox promote pitcher Theo Denlinger to Triple-A Worcester
The Red Sox are promoting relief pitcher Theo Denlinger to Triple-A Worcester this week, per the Telegraph Herald.
Denlinger was acquired via a February trade with the Chicago White Sox for Franklin German, who the Red Sox DFA’d a couple of days before.
The 26-year-old reliver has come out of the gate hot to begin this season with a 2.29 ERA in 19.2 innings of work. He has given up 10 hits on the year and had not allowed a home run on the year until Sunday. Opponents are hitting just .149 off of him this season.
The former Bradley University alum was able to crack the SoxProspects.com top-60 prospects, coming in at 48th on the list.
Denlinger’s promotion comes at a much needed time for the WooSox, as their staff ERA has climbed to 5.37 on the season. Worcester has given up 295 runs in 422 innings to start the season.
The counter-move is not yet known for the WooSox, as their roster is full after they received Brennan Bernardino back from the Red Sox. A move will be announced prior to their Tuesday night game in Louisville.
