Red Sox place shortstop Trevor Story on the 60-day injured list
The Red Sox announced that Trevor Story will be placed on the 60-day injured list. The move free’s up a spot on the Red Sox 40-man roster, presumably for a future free agent or trade acquisition.
Story will miss a major portion of the season following internal brace surgery preformed on his throwing elbow back in January.
There is no confirmed time table for Story’s return, the two-time All-Star is optimistic he will play this season for the Red Sox.
“I think best case, I’m back at some point in the second half and, worst case, I don’t play this year,” Story said. “But I feel really good about the first one.”
Story felt pain while working on his offseason throwing program. Once he was faced with the idea that he needed to have surgery, he opted for the internal brace procedure versus Tommy John. The surgery was performed on Jan. 9, and the time frames on expected time to be missed has varied from 4-6 months to 6-9 months, as reported by The Boston Globe.
Chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom said on Tuesday that the club is still looking at potential free agent and trade acquisitions.
The Red Sox made a move to bolster the infield by adding Yu Chang on a one year deal. He spent time with the club at the end of 2022.
