Red Sox Notes: Adam Duvall rehab starts this week, Chang and Arroyo updates
The Red Sox have reinforcements on the way to help the big league roster. Adam Duvall will begin a rehab stint with the WooSox beginning on Tuesday.
The outfielder has been on the injured list with a broken left wrist that he suffered just eight games into the season.
He suffered the wrist injury when he attempted to make a diving catch on a sinking liner in Detroit on April 9, rolling his wrist and suffering the injury.
Duvall was off to a hot start with the Red Sox prior to his injury. He drove in 14 runs, slashing .455/.514./1.030 prior to the injury.
The 34-year-old has been taking ground balls and has hit off the tee.
โI think weโll just continue to try to push it and see where weโre at. Weโll take some swings and then see where weโre at the next morning. Did you go too far? Do you need to do more? Right now, it has been responding really well. Weโre just going to keep taking those next steps,โ said Duvall to MassLive.
Duvall is eligible to come in the injured list on June 9.
Yu Chang suffers setback
Yu Chang has also begun his rehab assignment with the Portland Sea Dogs. Chang experienced pain in his left hand, resulting in the Red Sox pausing his rehab stint.
โSo he asked for like two extra days,โ manager Alex Cora said to reporters in Anaheim. โSo letโs see how it goes and hopefully he can start one over the weekend.โ
Chang fractured his left hamate bone in late April and was expected to miss six weeks. The injury came while the Sox where in Baltimore. Chang swung hard on a 1-1 pitch from Oโs pitcher Bryan Baker. On the swing, he broke his hamate bone.
Christian Arroyo with the WooSox
Christian Arroyo has begun his rehab assignment with the WooSox. Arroyo started at second base on Saturday and went 1-for-4 at the plate.
This was his second rehab game this week but the first time with Arroyo playing the field.
The 27-year-old suffered a right hamstring strain in early May. The Sox infielder has posted a .257/.295/.365 slash line and figures to be part of the infield equation this summer.
