Red Sox designate Hansel Robles for assignment
Robles DFA'd makes room for Brayan Bello on the Major League roster
The Red Sox have finally decided to cut ties with right-handed reliever Hansel Robles. Boston designated Robles for assignment after Tuesday’s loss. The news was first reported by Boston Sports Journal’s Sean McAdam.
The Red Sox will have seven days to trade, waive or release Robles.
The 31-year-old began the season as a trusted reliever for manager Alex Cora.
In nine appearances in the month of April, Robles pitched to a 0.93 ERA. He wasn’t the same once the calendar turned to May.
The reliever has struggled since May 1, pitching to a 9.00 ERA. Robles has also blown five saves this season.
After coming to the Red Sox in a trade at the deadline last season. He was one of the trusted relievers for Cora. However that success never translated to the 2022 season.
The move to designate Robles for assignment makes room for top pitching prospect Brayan Bello to start on Wednesday.
