No chance I'm giving up Jhostynxon Garcia and David Sandlin for Murphy. Adding in Duran? That's ridiculous. I wouldn't trade Sandlin for Murphy straight up. This is the first time I have completely disagreed with you, but that's' what makes this game great, right?
I wouldn’t make the trade either, but the Braves have probably the best catching tandem in the league so you’ve gotta give extra to pry that away. Very valuable position.
I think Murphy very well could be worth that kinda package, doesn’t mean I think the Sox should be the team to offer it!
Murphy is 31. The Braves are on the hook for $15M per year for the next 3.5 years. They want the Red Sox to take that $15M off of their plate so that they can go do something else with that money. The Red Sox just got rid of $28M via Devers, but added $12M via Hicks. So, you're telling me, if I trade Duran, Sandlin, and the Password, I am in essence trading Devers, , Duran, Sandlin, and the Password for Murphy, Hicks, and Harrison. That doesn't make this team better at all. In fact, it cripples the Red Sox b/c they are on the hook for Murphy's entire contract and they lost Sandlin and the Password. I understand the Password most likely will be traded at some point, but why now? Why not wait a bit or trade him for a frontline starter? Also, Sandlin has the velocity and pitch shape which the Red Sox feign over. Why would they trade him? That makes no sense. Sandlin is Rule 5 eligible, and he is THE most likely pitcher in all of baseball who is Rule 5 eligible to be taken in the Rule 5 draft. So, he's going to need to be protected, or need to be moved to the bullpen forthwith and he may be the high leverage arm the Red Sox are looking for. No need to trade him and handicap themselves in the process. Silly premise. Just silly
I agree. I’m an unhappy fan if they trade Duran at all. But for expensive catching help?? No way. The guy that needs to go is Yoshida. Trading Duran to create a lineup spot for a platoon DH, is a terrible move that diminishes and demoralizes this team. …plus adding in prospects? Breslow would get crucified for this trade. If they can rent a good pitcher at the deadline I am fine with that.
Trading Duran makes a ton of sense, no matter your view of the player. It’s a numbers game, really. Duran provides negative value as a defender, and is a slightly above average hitter.
Yoshida hammers righties and Refsnyder does the same to lefties. That platoon, plus Anthony and Abreu in the lineup every day, makes the team better.
Obviously don’t give Jarren away, but the Red Sox would be kind of silly to pass on a good return if it’s out there.
