Rangers left-handed reliever Will Smith makes MLB history with Rangers World Series win
he last three World Series champions are the Braves (2021), Astros (2022) and now the Rangers (2023). All three championships have one thing in common, left-handed reliever Will Smith.
The veteran reliever celebrated his third straight World Series win on Wednesday night, making history in the process.
"They're all special," Smith said on MLB Network, "but this one was pretty cool."
The 34-year-old played for the Royals, Brewers and Giants over the first eight years of his career. He was with the Royals before they won the World Series in 2015 and joined the Giants two years after their last championship in 2014. After signing with the Braves in 2021, he has been dominant in October and has the jewelry to prove it.
“This is obviously what you play for -- you want to win the last game of the year," Smith said. "This group's amazing, and it's been a lot of fun to be a part of it."
Smith signed a one-year, $1.5 million pact with the Rangers last offseason. He posted a 4.40 ERA over 57 1/3 innings with a 1.06 WHIP.
