The World Series is officially over and the MLB offseason is officially underway. The Atlanta Braves wasted no time locking up a key member of the their bullpen by signing reliever Joe Jiménez to a three-year contract worth $26 million.
The 28-year-old came over in a trade last offseason from the Tigers for prospect Justyn-Henry Malloy. In his first season in Atlanta, he pitched in 59 games with a 0-3 record, 3.04 ERA across 56 1/3 frames. Jiménez allowed just 14 walks during that span with 73 strikeouts.
This move comes on the heels of the Braves signing righty Pierce Johnson to a two-year deal last week.
Atlanta had some question marks heading into the winter regarding their bullpen. Locking up Jiménez and Johnson is a start, however, they will be looking for Dylan Lee and Tyler Matzek to come back healthy in 2024.
Veterans Kirby Yates and Collin McHugh both have club options for the next season. The Braves should still look to add another arm in free agency or via trade this offseason.
With this new deal for Jiménez, he will donate 1% of his salary to the Braves Foundation.
