The Raiders fired both head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler on Tuesday night, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
"After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave," owner Mark Davis said in a team statement. "I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best."
The Raiders have announced that linebackers coach Antonio Pierce will be the interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
Davis did not announce who would be making the offensive play calls. He did say that the team is committed to undergoing "a comprehensive search" for a head coach and general manager "once the season is complete."
McDaniels firing comes on the heels of losing to the Lions on Monday Night Football, 26-14. The Raiders offense has looked lost all season long, resulting in a 3-5 record.
Under McDaniels and Ziegler, the Raiders went 9-16, despite making key changes to the roster that included adding wide receiver Davante Adams.
McDaniels tenure as head coach with both the Broncos and Raiders has proved he’s more valuable as an offensive coordinator than running an entire operation. He failed to last two seasons with the Broncos, finishing with an 11-17 record in Denver.
Pierce will be the eighth different coach, interim or regular, for the Raiders since Davis took over control of the team.
