Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne tears ACL, will miss the remainder of the season
Patriots wide receiver Kendrick Bourne has torn his ACL and will miss the rest of the regular season, per NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.
During the Patriots’ 31-17 loss to the Dolphins, Bourne went down with an apparent knee injury early in the fourth quarter. The injury occurred after catching a pass from quarterback Mac Jones, Bourne looked to have injured his knee while being wrapped up for a tackle by Eli Apple.
Initially reports surfaced that the wideout suffered an MCL injury but the team was going to perform an MRI on Monday to learn the severity of his knee injury.
Prior to getting hurt, Bourne was one of the few bright spots for the Patriots offense. The 28-year-old made 37 receptions for 406 yards and four touchdowns. He led the team in targets, receptions, yards and touchdowns.
Bourne caught a 24-yard pass for a touchdown in the first quarter of the game. His touchdown was set up following a key interception from Kyle Dugger in the series prior.
“KB is a great teammate,” Jones said postgame. “Great friend of mine and does a great job coming to work every day and staying positive. I have a lot of love for KB. I hope he’s OK. I didn’t see him in there. Off the field, he’s one of my best friends, honestly. I have a lot of respect for him, his family and everybody. So I hope he’s OK.”
Unfortunately, Jones will have to operate without Bourne for the remainder of the season. With Bourne out, the Patriots will rely on DeVante Parker and Demario Douglas to step up in his absence. Parker suffered a head injury in the loss and his status for Week 9 is up in the air. JuJu Smith-Schuster has been a colossal disappointment this season, struggling with injuries and inconsistent play on the field.
