Portland Sea Dogs place red hot slugger on 7-day injured list
The Portland Sea Dogs will be without one of their top hitters.
Blaze Jordan was placed on the 7-day injured list on Sunday with a broken finger, according to the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier. Jordan sustained the injury during the first inning of Saturday afternoon’s game when he was trying to score from first to home on a Nick Yorke double to left field. The slugger slid into home but hit his hand on the catcher’s pad and immediately grabbed at his wrist.
Jordan walked off the field on his own accord, but was then seen on a cart riding off the field. The 21-year-old posted on X, telling fans, “We’ll be back.”
Entering play on Saturday, Jordan had a 17-game hitting streak and was one of the Sea Dogs’ hottest hitters. During his streak, Jordan was 27-for-70 (.386) with two homers and 12 RBI.
Prior to his injury, Jordan earned the honor of being named the Eastern League Player of the Week for April 22nd–28th. The first and third basemen tormented the Hartford Yard Goats pitching staff that week, hitting .444 (12-for-28) with four doubles, two homers, and eight RBI.
Jordan is currently ranked as the Red Sox’ No. 19 prospect, according to SoxProspects.com. There is no current time frame for when he will return to game action.
