Patriots interview their most experienced candidate yet for vacant special teams role
The New England Patriots are deep in their search for special teams assistants. They have interviewed Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McCaughey, per Jordan Raanan of ESPN.
McCaughey was fired by the Giants earlier this month after six seasons.
The Patriots have been linked to two young special team names, requesting to interview Falcons special teams coordinator Falcons Marquice Williams and Rams special teams assistant Jeremy Springer.
Williams and Springer are both in their late 30s as they look to rise through the coaching ranks.
McCaughey, 50, has been a coordinator dating back to 2002 with the Kansas City Chiefs. He was on his second stint with the New York Giants.
McCaughey was an assistant special teams coordinator when the Giants ended the Patriots undefeated season in Super Bowl XLII.
Joe Judge who held the title of assistant head coach last season in Foxboro has history with McCaughey. Judge was the Giants head coach for one season in 2020, while McCaughey remained on as the special teams coordinator for New York.

Patriots expected to interview Rams assistant coach
The New England Patriots are expected to interview Rams assistant special teams coach Jeremy Springer. This would mark the Patriots second external special teams candidate after requesting to interview Falcons Marquice Williams, no word since that reported request was made on if that was granted.
