Patriots head coach Bill Belichick to the quarterbacks on the roster: 'I told everybody to be ready to go'
The Patriots benched quarterback Mac Jones in Week 10 against the Indianapolis Colts with the game on line in favor of Bailey Zappe. This seemed to be a clear indication that after the bye week there would be a change at signal caller.
Apparently, not, or maybe so.
“I told all the players the same thing, get ready to go,” Bill Belichick said during Tuesday morning’s press conference.
When pressed further by the media about the starting quarterback, “I’ll let you know Sunday.”
Belichick’s options are to start an unconfident Mac Jones, an underwhelming Bailey Zappe, or an inexperienced Will Grier or even Malik Cunningham. In fairness to Belichick, none of these options are great ones, but that speaks to his roster management as well.
If a change from Jones is going to happen, it would have made a lot more sense for the new starter to get all of the practice reps. Last week, it looked like Jones was taking most of the reps, possibly indicating there will be no change.
“It will be based on what I think is best for the team,” said Belichick. This has become a canned answer by the head coach when he is asked about his roster by the media.
This speaks to the arrogance and incompetence the leader of the team has displayed this season. The greatest coach of all time acts like he always does what is best for the team, where in reality the Patriots are becoming unwatchable.
Belichick tells players to do their job well, he should take his own advice.
