Patriots add to front office personnel (report)
The New England Patriots are close to adding to their front office. Team team is finalizing a deal with Alonzo Highsmith, per Bruce Feldman, Chad Graff and Manny Navarro of the Athletic.
Highsmith has held the title of general manager of football operations with the University of Miami since 2022. Ian Rapaport of the NFL Network added his title with New England is expected to be a senior personnel executive.
The 58-year old, former number three overall pick, has worked in the front offices of the Packers, Browns, and Seahawks. His time with the Packers and Browns crossed over with Patriots director of scouting Eliot Wolf.
Between his ties with the coaching staff and Highsmith, the influence of Wolf is real. Wolf hasn’t been named the Patriots general manager, but continues to act as if he is in the role.
“Highsmith was the main guy for the Canes when it came to evaluating prospects.” The Athletic writes. “Inside the program, according to UM sources, he was seen as a big asset because he had such a keen, trained eye. Coaches and personnel staffers leaned on him.”
The Patriots have a lot of needs in this upcoming draft and having Highsmith who has been in the college ranks for the past two years certainly could help. Between his playing days and as a scout/executive he brings 29 years of experience.
