Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. continues to torch college defenses, becoming Heisman Troops candidate
If you haven’t been tuning into college football this season, you’re missing out on one of the most talent players in the NCAA. Ohio State’s wide receiver Marvin Harrison is good, very good.
Harrison is pro-ready, he brings a combination of size, athleticism, route-running and ball skills to the Buckeyes offense.
On Saturday, Harrison made six catches for 123 yards with two touchdowns in Ohio State’s 24-10 win over the Bagders. Harrison became just the second Ohio State player with at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in four straight games, according to ESPN Stats and Info.
He is one game away from tying Cris Carter, who had five games in a row with 100 yards receiving and a touchdown back (1986).
The 6-foot-4 junior has had 105 receiving yards in six of the Buckeyes past seven games. The Philadelphia native has 48 receptions for 889 yards with eight touchdowns.
As each game passes, Harrison is becoming a strong Heisman Trophy candidate and a potential top-5 pick in next year’s NFL Draft.
“I may vote for Marvin Harrison for the Heisman Trophy,” said NBC Sports Todd Blackledge on the B1G Talk podcast with Noah Eagle. “He may be the best football player in college football at any position. I think of how do guys play in the biggest games, the games that matter most. That was a huge game last week and with a lot on the line, he was the best player on the field.”
All NFL teams will be watering from the mouth with the chance to add an elite talent to their offense. Harrison will come off the board fast, possibly as early as No. 3 overall. The generational talent is a human cheat code on the gridiron.
This season, he has done the little things on the field outside of the explosive plays. He can play against any coverage due to his physical play, turning sure fire incomplete passes into receptions, moving the chains for the Buckeyes.
The young Ohio State star is the son of former Colts great and Hall of Fame wide receiver Marvin Harrison.
Harrison Sr. played his entire career with the Colts (1996-2008) with 1,102 receptions, 14,580 yards and 128 touchdowns. His son has the potential to surpass the many accolades that his father set while in the NFL.
"I just worry about the current situation, which is to help the university win as many games possible," Harrison Sr. said back in March. "When the day comes, you know, his professional career, whether it's next year or two years, I'm sure he'll be ready and make a good impression for those guys if that ever happens."
