Is it time for the Patriots to increase the workload for rookie wide receiver Demario 'Pop' Douglas
In Demario Douglas’ first NFL game against the Eagles, he had four catches on seven targets and 40 yards receiving. Since then he had not seen more than three targets until last week’s contest against Buffalo. The sixth round selection of Liberty had four catches on six targets and finished the game with 54 receiving yards.
If the patriots can learn anything from their opponent this weekend in the Miami Dolphins, it’s that you need speed and the ability to quickly change direction on the field.
“Pop” is that player for the pats.
“Every day he’s constantly gotten better,” said Patriots wide receiver coach Ross Douglas on Tuesday during his weekly press conference.
If the Patriots offense and Mac Jones want to keep the momentum going after their upset win vs the Bills and put up a worthy performance vs Miami, Douglas needs to have his workload increase and see more targets.
This weekend, I’ll be taking the over on 26.5 receiving yards, which is the line set for Douglas’s receiving prop with the over being -130, odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook.
Douglas has averaged 32.8 receiving yards per game so far in his young, six game career and has gone over 26 yards receiving in half of them. He also averages 14.1 yards per catch. Last week he played his season high 37 snaps. One chunk play and this bet hits easily.
The Patriots need more explosive plays and to put the ball in their playmakers hands and they can do just that by continuing to feed Douglas the ball.
