Great stuff. As a closet Pirates fan (I live in Boston), I love the idea of getting hitters for the Pirates from organizations who've produced hitters. I look around the league & see teams like the Pirates, Mariners, Cardinals, Marlins & others who appear to have a real problem producing good hitters. I believe their hitting philosophy is flawed in the way they teach/coach. Most hitters just need to be left alone to figure sh*t out w/o major tinkering. However, over my lifetime (I'm approaching 54 years old), I've met at least 75 former professional baseball players who never made it to the Big Leagues and every single one of them told me their biggest regret was listening to the coaching regarding hitting instead of staying with what made them a good prospect in the first place. I still believe Nick Gonzales has the potential to be a lifetime .300 hitter and multi-time All Star, but his coaches keep tinkering w/his physical or mental game instead of allowing him to just see the ball & hit the ball the way he did in college. Let the kids relax, be tension free, & allow their God given hand-eye coordination and athleticism play instead of f***ing them up. That's just one man's opinion.
