WooSox utility man Nick Sogard delivered to me one of my favorite quotes I heard all season long describing his play.
“If you come watch me for a day, you are probably not going to notice that I was on the field. If you come for a month or two, you will probably leave saying I am a pretty good player.”
While I don’t agree with his line of not going to notice him on the field, I get what he is saying. It is more the overall product of his game compared what he does in one game.
The WooSox wrapped up their final home game on Sunday with a win. Sogard added his 7th home run of the year for good measure. While the Triple-A season still has a week to go, Sogard has already turned in a great season in Worcester.
His slash line of .267/.371/.389 are some of his career bests in his minor league career. His on-base percentage is the highest it’s been since 2019 when he was in Low-A. He gets on base a ton and was a big reason why he was constantly batting lead-off or second in front of Bobby Dalbec and others. He is a switch-hitter who has hit lefties very well this year by slashing .330/.454/.534 this season while hitting right-handed.
Defensively, he is a plus defender at multiple positions, according to his manager Chad Tracy. He has seen time at second base, shortstop, third base, left field, and right field this season.
Sogard is the definition of a utility man who makes a ton of contact and gets on base. He can latch on at the MLB level in a bench spot and spot guys all over the diamond. The 26-year-old is Rule 5 Draft eligible so if he does not get that chance with the Red Sox, he might just get it with another team.

I would keep him at Triple A and use him as trade bait. I have not seen him play but to me his stat line doesn’t warrant a promotion which is why SABR METRIC asshats drive me crazy. You must see a player perform over a certain amount of time to determine what the stats really mean. The RedSox need a Dustin Pedroia type 2nd baseman and I personally like Nick Madrigal his stat line is Avg .263 HR 2 RBI 28 OPS .663
He currently is the Cubs 3B but was a 1st round draft pick of the White Sox as a 2B. Just watching him play 2nd he so reminds me of Peddie and I’ve been watching him since he was at Oregon State who won the 2018 CWS. Nick was on that team with Adley Rutschman. His contract is below the MLB average per season. He plays like he belongs in Boston.
