The New York Jets were so hopeful last offseason after they landed future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. Unfortunately, the quarterback tore his Achilles on the very first drive of the season. Typically, that is a season ending injury, but Rodgers from the very beginning has had different ideas.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Sunday morning, that Rodgers could return during the regular season.
“Here is my understanding after talking to several people in the situation, the most likely spot that Rodgers could return would be December 24th game (Week 16) against the Washington Commanders,” said Rapoport.
There is a caveat to this report from Rapoport, Rodgers would attempt to return only if the Jets are still in the playoff hunt. New York is currently sitting at 4-5 with Zach Wilson as their signal caller. Their record puts them only one game behind the Houston Texans.
The Jets are currently in 13th place due to the tight AFC standings. The Jets have one game at hand on most of the teams in front of them. The Bills, Bengals, Raiders, and Colts all sit at 5-5. Their next four games include two games against the 6-3 Miami Dolphins and the Texans.
Rodgers made his weekly appearance on ESPN’s Pat McAfee Show last Tuesday and responded to an original report that he would be back mid-December.
“There is no set date. It could change if I have a great week this week and next, it could accelerate. If we are not in it in three or four weeks that could take it a different way, but I expect us to be in it and I expect to come back,” said Rodgers.
