The Celtics’ Kristaps Porzingis suffered a calf injury in Friday afternoon’s 113-96 loss to the Magic in Orlando.
Porzingis suffered the injury in the third quarter while running back on defense.
“I felt a bit of something in my calf and just kept playing,” he told reporters after the game. “I felt like, OK, it’s some kind of strain or tightness, something happened there and you saw me limping a little bit. The medical staff pulled me out after that.”
Porzingis played 22 minutes in the game before leaving in the third quarter. The 7-foot-3 big man was asked whether the NBA In-Season Tournament floor played a role in his injury.
“Nothing with the floor, it just randomly happened,” he said. “It’s hard to say (when I’ll be back). Tomorrow, MRI and we’ll go from there. Honestly [I don’t feel concerned], such a random one that happened. I don’t think it’s anything serious. I look to bounce back real fast from this one.”
Boston had an opportunity to clinch a knockout round berth in the tournament. The C’s built up a double-digit lead in the game, only to see the Magic erase that with a 17-0 run. Orlando continued to apply pressure on Boston leading to the victory.
With the loss, the Celtics fall to 2-1 in the tournament and will have their final game in Group C against the Bulls on home Tuesday.
