Celtics big man, Kristaps Porzingis left Friday afternoon’s loss to the Magic with left calf tightness.
Porzingis suffered the injury early on in the third quarter running back on defense before he was removed from the game for Luke Kornet with 6:44 remaining.
Prior to the injury, Porzingis had nine points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals in 22 minutes on the court. He was eventually ruled out late in the third quarter.
“I felt a bit of something in my calf and just kept playing,” Porzingis said to reporters after the game. “I felt like, OK, it’s some kind of strain or tightness, something happened there and you saw me limping a little bit. The medical staff pulled me out after that.”
The 7-foot-3 center had been healthy with the Celtics through the first 15 games of the season. He’s dealt with numerous issues over the course of his career, including dealing with plantar fasciitis this summer that forced him to miss the FIBA World Cup.
The 28-year-old will undergo an MRI, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe. Porzingis told reporters that he doesn’t feel like there’s any major cause of concern over his injury.
“Nothing with the floor, it just randomly happened,” he said. “It’s hard to say (when I’ll be back). Tomorrow, MRI and we’ll go from there. Honestly [I don’t feel concerned], such a random one that happened. I don’t think it’s anything serious. I look to bounce back real fast from this one.”
If Porzingis misses any time, Kornet and Oshae Brissett will play a bigger role for Joe Mazzulla’s squad. The team is already down Jrue Holiday with a sprained ankle and Derrick White suffered an arm contusion in the first quarter of Friday’s game but remained in the contest.
