Kenley Jansen leaves Red Sox game in the ninth inning with injury
The Red Sox battled back for a much needed win against the Astros on Wednesday night, 7-5, thanks to the three-run blast by Adam Duvall in extra innings.
Prior to Duvall’s huge homer, the Sox lost closer Kenley Jansen with was the team called right hamstring tightness.
“Just tight,” manager Alex Cora said during his postgame press conference. “We’ll see where we’re at tomorrow, how he feels. Hopefully, he’s ready for Friday.”
Jansen was removed after the first out was recorded in the first inning with the score tied 4-4 in the ninth inning.
The All-Star closer looked uncomfortable gingerly walking off the field with the trainer. Jansen threw just three pitches in the game, he got Jon Singleton to fly out on a cutter.
Nick Pivetta replaced Jansen, walking Jose Altuve upon entering the game but battled back by striking out both Alex Bregman and Kyle Tucker.
If the Red Sox lose Jansen for any extended period of time, it will be a major blow to a club trying to scratch and claw its way into the playoffs.
Jansen has a 2.81 ERA and 29 saves in 46 games (41 2/3 innings) in his first season with the Red Sox.
