Jarren Duran hits his league-leading 9th triple, on pace to break Red Sox team record
Jarren Duran ripped his major-league-leading ninth triple in the Red Sox’ 9-0 win over the Braves on Wednesday afternoon.
Duran joked with reporters after the game about whether he’s enjoyed hitting so many triples this season.
“I don’t know about enjoying it. It’s a lot of running. My legs are kind of tired,” Duran said, smiling while talking to reporters. “But it’s always nice to get on third for somebody behind me — just to be able to hit a fly ball or a ground ball and I can score for them.”
Duran is on pace for a 23.5 triple this year. If he were to hit 23 triples, the speedy outfielder would pass Tris Speaker holds the Red Sox’ single-season record for triples with 22 in 1913.
The 27-year-old tripled with one out and nobody on base in the bottom of the fifth inning. His triple sparked a three-run rally that gave the Red Sox a 6-0 lead in the game.
“From where we’re sitting, to just see him take off after he rounded first, it was fun,” manager Alex Cora said. “It was fun to watch.”
Duran also hit his fourth homer of the season in the eighth inning, a 399-foot blast to right field that left his bat at 104.6 mph, per Baseball Savant.
The Calif. native has scuffled over the last seven games, hitting .222 (6-for-27) with a homer and two RBI. His offensive outburst on Wednesday could get him going at the plate. On a positive note, Duran is 6-for-16 (.375) with four runs scored in his last four games.
“It’s a grind,” Duran said. “We all know baseball has ups and downs. So it’s just staying with my teammates and myself and coaches and just riding the wave and making sure I’m staying positive and trusting myself.”
