In the fourth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, the Red Sox selected a talented infielder in Kristian Campbell. Since making his pro debut, all Campbell has done is hit, which has continued this season. Through the first few months of the 2024 campaign, his stock has been on the rise as he has moved one step closer to the majors.
While splitting time between two levels, Campbell has posted a .311 batting average and driven in 25 runs. The Georgia Tech native has also shown some power with 13 doubles and one home run. Due to his impressive start, the Chattanooga native was recently promoted to Double-A.
Although Campbell was drafted less than two years ago, he has quickly moved through the system. At every level, he has been able to get on base and excel regardless of who is on the mound. In a farm system loaded with infield talent, Campbell has started to stand out.
Additionally, Campbell has made headlines with his bat but also provided value with his versatility. So far this season, he has seen time at second base, third base, and center field. While playing all over the diamond, the 21-year-old has turned ten double plays and recorded 55 assists. He also has yet to record an error.
With the season far from over, Campbell will be a prospect to watch. He has shown the ability to get on base and provide solid defense regardless of the position. At times, he has shown the ability to make an impact on the bases, with six stolen bases on his resume.
While much focus has been placed on future stars Kyle Teel and Marcelo Mayer, Campbell is holding his own. He didn’t come to the Red Sox with expectations to be the face of the franchise, but he could be a valuable utility player who gets on base. If he can build on his success, more promotions could be on the horizon for the former Georgia Tech star.
