Nice. Still believe Yoshida is an Above Average Major League Hitter. If he's healthy, he may be even better than that. He hasn't been healthy at any point during his time in Boston. Of course, we all know what that means. So, it appears, the Red Sox front office's biggest job ahead of them is getting Devers to trust them again so that the Manager can maximize the hitting talent in a lineup.
Yoshida is definitely greatly missed. This goes back to a previous article I wrote about how Breslow's messaging has been very bad. They easily could've opened the year with Bregman at second, Devers at third and Yoshida at DH. Sounded like that's what Cora wanted back in January as well. They decided to throw Devers for a whirlwind in February after not addressing the lineup for almost four months. Now, you've got Raffy not wanting to move off DH (fair enough, he's killing the ball AND posting) and Yoshida, whose bat you desperately need, who can swing pain-free but can barely throw 60+ feet.
As someone w/no cartilage in either shoulder, I know what it was like for me to be able to swing pain free but be unable to get the ball 90'. A guy who is an above average hitter is always missed from a lineup. I have studied communication, our motivations to withhold communication, why we say & do the things we do for more than 25 years. I have compassion for Breslow's inability or unwillingness to communicate effectively w/Devers. I also have compassion for Devers' point of view as well. Frankly, most disagreements are a result of a breakdown in communication. Hopefully Breslow can learn how to 'clean it up' so that this team has a chance of maximizing its abilities.
