Former Red Sox slugger will retire if salary expectations aren't met
Former Red Sox outfielder Adam Duvall might hang up his cleats and call it a big league career.
Duvall is still a free agent and wants to play in 2025 but will only sign with a team if they meet his salary demands.
According to New York Post’s Joel Sherman, the 36-year-old is looking for at least $3 million to sign somewhere, or he will retire. Duvall reportedly was offered $1 million by the Royals, which would also include another $1 million in performance bonuses, but he declined the offer.
Duvall spent the 2023 season with Boston after he signed a one-year, $7 million deal, where he started out red-hot at the plate before he broke his left wrist just eight games into the season.
He suffered the injury when he attempted to make a diving catch on a liner that was falling fast in center field. The veteran wound up rolling his left wrist and suffered the fracture. Duvall appeared in 92 games in total; he clubbed 21 home runs with 58 RBIs, 24 doubles, and a .247/.303/.531 slash line.
The right-handed hitter played for the Braves last season and didn’t enjoy a strong offensive season. He hit just .182/.245/.323 batting line over 330 plate appearances. Duvall remained on the Braves roster all season but saw a tremendous decline in playing time due to his struggles at the dish.
The veteran has played parts of 11 Major League seasons with the Braves, Reds, Red Sox, Marlins, and Giants. He spent the majority of his career in Atlanta, playing for the Braves three separate times.
