Former Giants manager latest to interview for Red Sox front office role
A brand new name has entered the chat to potentially become the next leader of the Red Sox front office.
Former Giants and Phillies manager Gabe Kapler has interviewed to become the leader of Boston’s baseball operations department, per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe.
The 48-year-old spent the last six years as skipper for Philadelphia and San Francisco. He was let go by the Giants at the conclusion of the season.
Kapler has experience working in a front office, spending time with the Dodgers as their farm director from 2014-17.
Kapler joins Cubs assistant general manager Craig Breslow, Twins GM Thad Levine, and Guardians special assistant Neal Huntington as external candidates who have interviewed with the Red Sox.
Breslow reportedly was in advanced discussions with the organization, according to The Athletic. MassLive’s Sean McAdam threw cold water on the report, saying the Red Sox are still doing their due diligence to fill the role.
Internal candidates Eddie Romero assistant general manager Michael Groopman, and vice president of player development and scouting Paul Toboni have also interviewed to replace Chaim Bloom.
Boston will reportedly not pursue former Marlins general manager Kim Ng, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
