Over the last few years, Fabian Lysell has been one of the most watched Bruins prospects. In the 2021 NHL Draft, the Bruins used their first-round pick on the Swedish native, hoping he would be their next great center. While his AHL career has been a rollercoaster ride, Lysell has recently shown the impact he can make.
Since the calendar flipped to January, the 20-year-old has recorded seven points in six games. He has put his teammates in positions to succeed, with four assists in that span. His recent play has been an encouraging sign and proved that his impressive end to December was no fluke.
However, his ability to deal with criticism has stood out the most. On December 17, Providence Bruins Head Coach Ryan Mougenel called out Lysell for his play. Since then, Lysell has relied less on his own abilities and used his teammates off the rush.
Due to his recent scoring surge, Lysell has 37 points this season. That is the fifth most on the Providence Bruins roster. The former first-round pick also ranks fourth in goals with 14 due to how aggressive he has been with the puck. Lysell is shooting the puck 40 percent of the time.
While the season is far from over, it has been hard to ignore Lysell's play. He has been a human highlight reel and sparked the Providence offense. That will go a long way in earning a promotion when he is needed at the NHL level.
Additionally, Lysell only needs seven points to match his total from last year. If he continues his recent play, he should easily pass that mark. That would be an encouraging development for a critical piece of the Bruins's future.
