David Pastrnak is picking up right where he left off last season. The star forward scored 60 goals last since, the first Bruins player to do so since Phil Esposito.
Through just eight games this season, Pastrnak has eight goals and added two during Saturday night’s 4-1 win over the Red Wings from the TD Garden.
Pastrnak’s first goal came on his second penalty shot of the young season. Following being hooked by Detroit defenseman Jake Walman on a breakaway, the 27-year-old deked a shot past Ville Husso.
With 2:19 left in regulation, he clinched the Bruins win with an empty-net tally.
“I was just trying to get (the puck) out,” Pastrnak told reporters following the win. “I was there for a while, and I wanted to get a change, honestly.”
Pastrnak’s goal looked like a trick billiards shot which he also admitted he’s actually “terrible” at playing.
Teammate Patrick Brown asked Pastrnak about his ability to play billiards following the contest.
“Oh okay that’s why — Brown asked me if I’m a good pool player and I didn’t get it,” Pastrnak laughed. “I was like, ‘What do you mean — are you trying to play some pool tonight?’ So I told him, ‘No, I’m terrible.’ Now I got it, thank you.”
“No, I’m not good,” Pastrnak added of his pool game after a pause. “I was just exhausted.”
