Corey Kluber on his first spring start: 'Really just trying to pound the strike zone, execute pitches'
Corey Kluber made his Red Sox debut on the mound Tuesday night against the Marlins. Kluber looked good, pitching two scoreless innings, giving up two hits while striking out a batter.
“I threw all my pitches, tried to make it as realistic as possible,” said Kluber.

The 36-year-old was effective throwing 26 pitches during his start. He threw 13 pitches in both innings and had no issues dealing with the pitch clock.
Following his start, NESN’s Tom Caron asked Kluber about his approach at attacking the strike zone as he begins the spring.
“I tried to start with the basics, with the first couple and then work from there. Really just trying to pound the strike zone, execute pitches… try to find spots and work on things that maybe I don’t do all that often, where I am not all that comfortable doing, situations to work on, stuff like that.
“For the most part, just trying to get back in the flow of being out there during the game… and afterwards, back into a five day routine. That sort of stuff gets your body ready,” added Kluber.
Last season, Kluber made 31 starts for the Rays with a 4.34 ERA in 164 innings of work. He struck out 139 batters while walking just 21, which was good for a 6.62 K/BB ratio.
