Christian Koss eager to get into WooSox lineup: 'I want to learn every position on the field'
The WooSox current roster might set a record with how many guys they have on the roster that are considered “utility players”.
The roster features Ryan Fitzgerald and Nick Sogard, who can be seen on a nightly basis in the WooSox lineup at three different infield positions and both corner outfield positions. Christian Koss hopes to join the two in the same role following his promotion to Triple-A.
“I know I’m able to move around like Sogard and Fitzy and play different spots.” Koss said about his role in Worcester. “Growing up, I had been able to play a ton of positions. I love the game enough I want to learn every position on the field.”
Koss knows that defense has always been his strongest trait. We have seen the 25-year-old play second base, shortstop, third base, and left field this season. He also knows that his bat is just as important as he moves up another level in the system.
“I need to continue to take better at-bats and have better plate discipline to grow into a better player up here.” Koss added.
With the promotion comes new teammates. Some of those teammates have extensive MLB experience that can help players like Koss as they reach the Triple-A level.
“I got to know these guys in Spring Training, so I have talked to a few of them.” Koss said about picking his teammate’s brains. “Niko Goodrum, Daniel Palka, and Bobby Dalbec have been awesome to me. A lot of experience between those guys and they are all willing to talk to you.”
