Caden Rose showed promising signs in college despite battling injuries
On day two of the MLB Draft, Caden Rose’s dreams came true when the Red Sox selected him with the 208th overall pick. For the Muscle Shoals native, it was the culmination of years of hard work and dedication paying off. While he dealt with adversity in college, he is a player with a lot of upside.
In 150 games for Alabama during his collegiate career, Rose hit .260 while driving in 61 runs. He also showed some power as 44 of his 112 hits went for extra-bases. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Rose displayed an ability to get on base and put pressure on the opposition with his speed. His best season came in 2022 when he hit .320 in 48 games.
Although Rose was limited by injuries this past season, he was tied for the team lead in stolen bases with nine. That was his career high as the talented outfielder finished his college career with 13. While he saw an increase in plate appearances with 153 at-bats Rose took advantage of his opportunities when he got on base.
After a memorable run while playing in his home state, Rose is excited to start his Red Sox career.
“The Red Sox took a chance on me, and I think that’s going to be the best situation for me,” Rose told WLTX. “You couldn’t ask for a better program to go into. The fans and the stadium are top-notch, and it’s such a storied program and a team that I’ve liked since I was a little kid, and I can’t be more fired up to get an opportunity.”
On Thursday, Rose was able to cross another item off his bucket list as he and the Red Sox agreed on a $150,000 deal. The slot value for his pick was $250,300. His focus will now turn to climbing through the system and building on his success at Alabama.
Rose became a well-liked player in Tuscaloosa due to his style of play. He is not afraid to put his body on the line to make a catch which is one quality Red Sox fans will embrace. Rose is one player to watch in a system full of talent.
