The Bruins are bringing back forward Danton Heinen, signing the veteran to a professional tryout contract, the team announced.
Heinen began his professional career with the Bruins, scoring 34 goals with 69 assists in 220 career games wearing the black and gold.
The 28-year-old spent parts of four seasons in Boston before he was traded to the Anaheim Ducks for forward Nick Ritchie back on Feb. 24, 2020. At the time of the deal, he had 22 points in 58 games.
Heinen spent the last two seasons with the Penguins, only generating 22 points (eight goals and 14 assists) in 65 games.
The 6-foot-1 winger totaled 70 goals and 106 assists for 176 points in 413 career NHL games.
The signing of Heinen comes on the heels of the Bruins adding forward Alex Chiasson back in August to a professional tryout.
The former Boston University forward played 20 games for the Red Wings last season where he scored six goals and added three assists. Chiasson played 29 games for the AHL’s Grand Rapid Griffins last season and scored nine goals and had 11 assists.
The 32-year-old made his NHL debut with the Stars back during the 2012-2013 season. He has also played for the Oilers, Senators, Capitals and Canucks.
The 11-year NHL forward is now on his fifth PTO of his career and his third straight. Last season, Chiasson signed a PTO with the Coyotes but he did not make their roster and sat out the beginning of the 2022-23 season.
The moves of Heinen and Chiasson are low risk deals that do not guarantee the two players of a roster spot. The Bruins have been active all summer adding depth throughout the system, Heinen and Chiasson are two more additions that will vie for a bottom six role this season.
