The Boston Bruins faced off against the Florida Panthers on Nov. 22 at Amerant Bank Arena and left with a 3-1 win.
The B’s were able to snap the Panthers’ six-game winning streak at home. The loss was just their second in the last nine games.
Boston also became the first team to reach 30 points this season. This is their 12th time achieving this feat in NHL history, which surpasses Toronto (11x) for second-most.
Things got heated early in the game. The Bruins and Panthers haven’t faced each other since the suspension of Charlie McAvoy for his illegal check on the Panthers’ Ekman-Larsson.
Six minutes into the game, McAvoy and the Panthers’ Nick Cousins both received penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct.
Charlie Coyle opened the scoring for the Bruins in the first period with a backhand goal at 18:35. Assists came from Danton Heinen and Hampus Lindholm.
Boston entered the second period up 1-0.
Five minutes into the second, B’s Derek Forbort and Panthers’ Jonah Gadjovich both were sent to the penalty box for fighting.
The Panthers were able to tie the game with a goal from Anton Lundell at 10:33 of the second. John Beecher put the B’s back on top, 2-1, less than a minute later with a wrist shot at 11:14.
Jake DeBrusk added to the lead with a wrist shot off an assist from Matthew Poitras to put the Bruins up 3-1.
Linus Ullmark made 27 saves and improved to 6-1-1 in the goal.
Bruins Head Coach Jim Montgomery reached a milestone with the win. He now sits at 79-13-8 through 100 games with Boston. The victories are the highest ever by any coach through their first 100 games with a franchise.
The Bruins will look to improve to 15-1-3 as they head back home to face the Detroit Red Wings on Friday, Nov. 24.
