Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy has been suspended four games without pay for his actions in the Oct. 30 game against the Florida Panthers.
A hearing was held on Oct. 31 after McAvoy was booted from the ice after receiving a match penalty at the 9:28 mark of the third period for elbowing Florida’s Oliver Ekman-Larsson in the head.
Ekman-Larsson did not return to the game after the hit and was scheduled to be evaluated on Oct. 31.
McAvoy’s actions were deemed an illegal check to the head after NHL Player Safety reviewed the footage.
His suspension will leave the Bruins’ defense short-handed as defenseman Matt Grzelyck is expected to miss a few weeks with an upper-body injury.
McAvoy has two goals and eight points in nine games for the Bruins so far this season.
The Bruins will host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday, Nov. 2.
