Over the weekend, all eyes were on the NHL as the 2024 Draft was held in Las Vegas. The Bruins continued to build for the future, making four selections. They added two forwards and two defensemen to the mix. While the Bruins only made a few picks, they brought in talented players with upside.
R 1, No.25, F Dean Letourneau
For the first time in four years, the Bruins made a first-round selection using the 25th overall pick on forward Dean Letourneau. The 18-year-old is coming off a stellar season for St. Andrew’s College of the U-18 AAA Prep League, in which he scored 61 goals and recorded 66 assists. Over the last few years, Letourneau has dazzled scouts with his playmaking ability and athleticism. He has the potential to be a top-six forward.
College: Committed to play at Boston College for the 2024-2025 season
R 4, No. 110, D Elliott Groenewold
After improving their forward group, the Bruins turned to defense with Groenewold. The 6-foot-2, 201-pound defenseman appeared in 57 games with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders last year. While Groenewold only recorded 16 points, he earned USHL All-Rookie Second Team honors. The talented 18-year-old won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Junior A U-19 Challenge while appearing in six games for Team USA.
College: Committed to play at Quinnipiac University for the 2024-25 season
R 5, No. 154, F Jonathan Morello
With their second pick on day two, the Bruins added a talented forward from Canada in Morello. In 50 games for the St. Michael’s Buzzers, Morello recorded 25 goals and dished out 32 assists. During the playoffs, the Ontario native took his game to another level, scoring 12 goals. He has frustrated opponents with his skating ability and has the potential to be a valuable forward.
College: Committed to play at Clarkson University for the 2025-26 season.
R 6, No. 186, D Loke Johansson
In the sixth round, the Bruins used their last pick on Loke Johansson. The Swedish native appeared in 13 games during the 2023-2024 campaign, recording 13 points. While Johansson is not known for his offense, he is not afraid of sacrificing his body. His physical style of play should fit in well with the Bruins as he looks to improve the other areas of his game.
College: To be determined
Bruins fans will get a first look at this talented group starting on July 1 at the Bruins Development Camp at Warrior Ice Arena.
