Bruins make a pair of moves ahead of the NHL trade deadline
The Bruins added size to the blue line on Friday afternoon acquiring defenseman Andrew Peeke from the Blue Jackets.
Boston is sending defenseman Jakub Zboril and a 2027 third-round draft pick to Columbus.
Peeke has appeared in 23 games for the Blue Jackets this season, he has one gaol and seven assists for eight points. The 25-year-old will add depth to the Bruins defensive unit, likely playing on the third pairing.
The 6-foot-4 blueliner is expected to join the team on Saturday and be entered into the lineup against the Penguins at 3 p.m.
The Bruins will move defenseman Derek Forbort to long term injured reserve (LTIR) in order to get under the salary cap. Forbort will have surgery and is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
Peeke is signed through the 2025-2026 season for $2.75 million.
Bruins land Pat Maroon from the Wild
The Bruins also acquired forward Pat Maroon from the Wild for a conditional sixth-round pick and Luke Toporowski.
The 35-year-old is a three-time Stanley Cup champion will provide the Bruins some physicality and grit to their bottom six lines.
Maroon has four goals, 12 assists and 60 penalty minutes in 49 games this season, his first for the Wild. The forward is currently out of action recovering from back surgery he underwent in February. He is expected to re-join the team towards the end of season.
Ironically the veteran comes to the Bruins after a history with Bruins play-by-play man Jack Edwards. The NESN broadcaster made fun of Maroon on the air for being out of shape last season. Edwards later apologized for on-air banter and said his remarks were not meant to be mean-spirited.
