Bruce Bochy wins fourth World Series title as manager
Rangers knock off Diamondbacks 5-0 in Game 5
In just his first season as manager for the Texas Rangers, Bruce Bochy has won another World Series title.
The title is the organization’s first since its establishment in 1961.
“It’s special, I’m not going to lie,” Bochy told reporters. “To come here in my first year with the team that was determined to play winning baseball and had never won a championship. But as far as me, that’s a byproduct of what those guys did out there and what the front office did.”
Bochy began his managerial career with the San Diego Padres in 1995. He would spend the next 12 years there — winning one of the team’s two National League Pennants in 1998.
In 2007, Bochy began managing the San Francisco Giants. He spent 13 years with the team, leading them to three World Series titles — one in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
Bochy retired after the 2019 season, but it wouldn’t be for long. He found his way back into the dugout in 2023 as manager of the Texas Rangers.
“I was very fortunate and blessed to be able to get back into baseball in this type of situation,” Bochy said. “I was in Nashville just relaxing and had three years off, and to come back and be in this position, I’ve said it so many times, I’ll say it again, I’m blessed.”
Bochy is the sixth manager to win at least four World Series titles. He joins the company of Casey Stengel (seven), Joe McCarthy (seven), Connie Mack (five), Walter Alston (four) and Joe Torre (four).
“It’s really overwhelming,” Bochy said. “I never thought in my wildest dreams when I started managing that I’d be in this position.”
Game five starter Nathan Eovaldi praised his manager.
“The way Boch has handled everything all year, I mean, it’s unbelievable,” Eovaldi told reporters. “Couldn’t have a better manager out there and win it for us.”
Long before his comeback in 2023, Bochy was headed for Cooperstown. Now, he will head in as what some may say the greatest manager ever.
