Brian Van Belle lifts Worcester to a win behind his best Triple-A start
Brian Van Belle entered his start on Thursday needing a big rebound from his previous outing where he allowed six runs over four innings. The right-hander responded with his best outing yet in his Triple-A career.
The University of Miami product picked up the win after allowing two earned runs over six innings pitched. He added seven strikeouts and didn’t allow a walk in the outing. He now has 15 strikeouts over the last two outings as well as 30 swings and misses recorded in the outings. He has now won two games in his last three outings.
After eight games into his Triple-A career, the results have been a mixed bag for Van Belle. His 6.99 ERA is a bit inflated due to a couple of bad outings, but his strikeout numbers and his swing and miss stuff has looked much better in his past two outings. He now carries a 9.6 K/9 so far in Worcester, which is the highest that number has been since his college days at Miami.
Van Belle is a member of the WooSox rotation which also has Brandon Walter, Kyle Barraclough, Shane Drohan, and newly promoted right-hander Grant Gambrell. The last month of the season could see Van Belle be relied upon in a more crucial way after the MLB rosters expand and a starter like Walter or Barraclough join the big league team. Van Belle is Rule 5 Draft eligible after the season.
