Boston Bruins’ Brad Marchand is returning to the team ahead of schedule following double hip surgery. The winger will make his season debut on Thursday night at home against the Red Wings.
Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery said he’d “love to see” Marchand play on Thursday. He will get his wish as Marchand returns almost five weeks ahead of schedule.
“We have exciting news: No. 63 is going to play tonight,” Montgomery said this morning. “I was a little coy yesterday, because we didn’t want to get ahead of ourselves, we wanted to see how he responded to a good hard practice yesterday.
This is huge news for the Bruins who currently own the best record in the Eastern Conference will now get another weapon back to their lineup.
Marchand also was trying to be coy along with his head coach about his impending return.
Linus Ullmark is off to a stellar start
The 34-year-old Marchand told reporters today, “It was tough,” Marchand said when asked if it was hard to keep a straight face answering questions yesterday.”Obviously you guys are doing your jobs and trying to get information out there, [but] the last thing I wanted was for you guys to say I was playing and then back out today.
“I was just trying make sure that before I announced it that it was going to be for sure.”
Marchand skated with the top line on Wednesday and will play alongside Patrice Bergeron and Jake DeBrusk in his first game back.
