It didn’t take very long for Blackhawks rookie phenom Connor Bedard to score his first career NHL goal. In just his second career game, Bedard burst onto the NHL map scoring on Vezina Trophy winner Linus Ullmark.
"It's a big relief," said Bedard, following the Blackhawks 1-0 loss to the Bruins on Wednesday night. "You want to get one really bad, quick, and kind of get that out of the way. But it was really cool moment and cool building to do it in."
Bedard scored just five minutes into the game, burying a wrap around goal past Ullmark.
The play started when the 18-year-old took the puck from the blue line, then dumping a pass to former Bruin Ryan Donato before getting the puck back and working his way around the net and slamming the puck home.
“I remember being behind the net and kind of seeing it, and I was just like, ‘Don’t screw this up,’” he said. “And then once it went in, a lot of joy, for sure. That moment, it’s what many people in the world dream of, and I’m very fortunate to be able to be put in this position and get a chance like that.”
Bedard’s first goal comes on the heels of him recording his first NHL assist the night prior against the Penguins.
