Baseball America ranks Red Sox’ Roman Anthony as No. 2 prospect in baseball
Roman Anthony has risen through the Red Sox system, reaching Triple-A Worcester, and is now ranked the No. 2 prospect in all of baseball, according to Baseball America.
The Red Sox top outfield prospect is one of six Red Sox’ players that are in the publication’s Top 100 prospects that dropped on Tuesday.
Anthony makes a huge jump from No. 18 to No. 2 since the last update from BA.
The 20-year-old slashed .269/.367/.489 line with 15 home runs, 38 extra-base hits, and 16 steals over 84 games with Double-A Portland; Anthony was promoted to the WooSox alongside Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel on Aug. 11.
The Florida native has torched Triple-A pitching since his promotion; the power-hitting lefty is slashing .315/.393/.534 with three home runs, 10 RBI, 10 walks, and just 13 strikeouts over 18 games (73 at-bats) in Worcester.
Mayer dropped a spot going from No. 10 to No. 11, likely due to his season-ending lumbar-strain injury. His 2024 season ended with the shortstop slashing . 307/.370/.480 with 28 doubles, eight homers, and 38 RBI with the Sea Dogs.
Teel jumped up five spots to No. 26 overall; the top catching prospect has struggled offensively in Worcester hitting .172/.269/.241, one home run, eight RBI, 19 strikeouts over 58 at-bats.
Kristian Campbell made a huge jump from No. 99 to No. 25, one spot ahead of Teel in the new rankings. Campbell has torn the cover off the ball this season, batting .362 with eight home runs, 28 total extra-base hits, and 35 RBI in just 56 games with Portland. The Georgia Tech alum has hit .302 with three homers and 12 RBI in 11 games for Worcester.
Braden Montgomery climbed up two spots to No. 61; the Red Sox selected him in the first-round pick of the 2024 MLB Draft. He has not yet made his professional debut while rehabbing back from an ankle injury. The Athletic’s Keith Law labeled Montgomery as the “steal of the draft” back in July.
Franklin Arias jumped into the Top 100 list, debuting as the No. 94 prospect. The Sox signed the infielder as an international free agent in January 2023 and has been playing with Low-A Salem.
