Red Sox prospect Roman Anthony clubs first Triple-A homer, knocks in three runs in WooSox win
Roman Anthony clubbed his first Triple-A homer in Worcester’s 8-5 win over the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old went 4-for-5 with a homer and double and knocked in three RBI while scoring four runs out of the leadoff spot.
Anthony’s first homer with the WooSox came off an 81.3-mph slider from Norfolk’s lefty Bruce Zimmerman, and it traveled 415 feet over the wall in right field. The ball left his bat with an exit velocity of 108.1 mph.
In his first seven games for the WooSox, Anthony has gone 9-for-27 (.333) with a homer, three doubles, and four RBI.
Last week, Anthony made his Triple-A debut, collecting five hits against the IronPigs, all off left-handed pitcher Kolby Allard. His hits came in the first and last games of the series, he went 0-for-15 against the other pitchers in that series.
In total, he went 5-for-22 (.227) with two doubles, one RBI, two walks, and four strikeouts while posting .610 OPS.
“The strike zone changes sometimes for the better for the hitters at this point,” WooSox manager Chad Tracy said last week to reporters. “It gets smaller, but the quality of the stuff, the experience on the mound—all those things change,” Tracy said. “You’re playing against guys, quite a few that have got big league experience and have that savvy about them.”
Anthony had a meteoric rise through the Red Sox system, following being the team’s second-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. He impressed in Portland, posting a 269/.367/.489 slash line with 15 home runs and 45 RBI for the Sea Dogs prior to his call-up.

Teel went 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts on Tuesday night. The 22-year-old is just 2-for-21 (.095) with three walks and eight strikeouts in six games.
