Alex Cora's 2024 coaching staff set, Andy Fox and Kyle Hudson with additional roles
The Red Sox have officially announced their 2024 coaching staff on Thursday. Kyle Hudson, who coached first base last season, will serve as the new third base coach.
Hudson will replace former third base coach Carlos Febles who the team fired on Oct. 9. In addition to coaching third base, he will also continue in his role as outfield instructor and will coach base running.
Andy Fox, who was the team’s field coordinator last year, will take over as infield coordinator and will coach first base.
Andrew Bailey will serve as the team’s pitching coach. He took over for Dave Bush, who was fired on Oct. 9. The former Sox closer spent time as the Giants pitching coach the last four seasons.
Ramón Vázquez will return as manager Alex Cora’s bench coach. Pete Fatse will continue as hitting coach. Luis Ortiz and Ben Rosenthal will continue their duties as assistant hitting coaches.
Kevin Walker returns as bullpen coach and former captain Jason Varitek returns in his same role as game planning coordinator and catching coach.
Cora will enter this season in the final year of his contract. There seems to be no progress on a contract extension for the skipper. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow told reporters that he and Cora are focused on the 2024 season.
“As it relates to his contract, we have conversations and I think both he and I know that those conversations take place between the two of us and at the appropriate time,” Breslow said on MassLive’s Fenway Rundown podcast Thursday. “But I think we’re both comfortable with the relationship and we’re both prioritizing the work that we need to do to have as successful a 2024 season as we can.”
