Yu Chang drives in 4 RBIs in win over the Angels
Yu Chang had been struggling mightily at the plate to begin the season. On Saturday afternoon, he broke a 0-for-17 drought with a two-run homer and delivered a go-ahead two-run single, lifting the Red Sox to a 9-7 win over the Angels.
“What the coaches expressed to me is they don’t want me to think about the past,” Chang said through translator Patrick Chu. “They want me to do the same routine and have the same consistency and try to grab any opportunity you have coming.”
Chang hit a two-run blast in the bottom of the fourth inning that hit the Draft Kings sign above the Green Monster.
During the bottom of the eighth, the Red Sox loaded the bases following two catcher’s interference at the plate.
Chang delivered a two-run single that went to left field. The hit scored two more runs, putting the Red Sox on top for good.
“Never seen it. But that’s baseball,” said manager Alex Cora to reporters, including MassLive’s Christopher Smith.
Chang had been hitless to begin the season, the last hit he had was during the World Baseball Classic.
“Everyone has the expectation for me — they want me to copy the WBC performance here,” Chang said. “So I’m excited I played well tonight and I’ll keep (doing) my best to help the team win.”
