Yankees eyeing Nathan Eovaldi in free agency?
The market for Red Sox free agent right-hander Nathan Eovaldi has been rather quiet the last few weeks. Prior to the Winter Meetings, WEEI’s Rob Bradford tweeted, Eovaldi could sign before the meetings in San Diego. That never happened and the righty is still a free agent.
The Red Sox are still a target for the Texas native who spent 4 1/2 years in Boston. The market for pitching has been expensive this offseason and the veteran right-hander might be waiting on prized lefty Carlos Rodon to sign before picking his next home.

“Other teams are showing more interest in (Eovaldi) than the level currently displayed by the Red Sox,” according to Bradford. He would also report that multiple teams (including potential contenders) are interested in the righty.
The way the market has played out for the Red Sox, when multiple teams have been involved, Boston seems to come up on the losing end of the negotiations.

If Rodon fails to land in the Bronx, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports the Yankees could shift to Eovaldi.
“The Yankees believe Rodon wants to come to New York, but if they can’t bridge their difference, they may turn to their next choice, believed to be ex-Yankee Nate Eovaldi,” reported Heyman.
The 32-year-old two seasons for the Yankees back in 2015-2016.
Boston offered Eovaldi the $19.65 million qualifying offer, in the event another team signs him, they’ll receive draft pick compensation.
Eovaldi started 20 games with a 6-3 record, a 3.87 ERA, 103 strikeouts and 20 walks over 109 1/3 innings. Losing him would weaken a rotation already in need of upgrades. As the market for Rodon shakes out, Eovaldi will narrow down who he’ll pitch for in 2023.
