Xander Bogaerts with the web gem of the season
Xander Bogaerts flashed some major leather at shortstop against the Rays at the Trop on Friday night. With two runners on and two outs, Sox starter Michael Wacha was down in the count to Yandy Diaz.
Wacha threw a 93 mph sinker that Diaz would rip back up the middle. However, Bogaerts had other ideas.
The All-Star shortstop went vertical and snagged the line drive in mid-air saving at least two runs in the process.
Bogaerts has taken criticism from fans about his defense over the last couple of seasons. With his web gem on Friday night, Bogaerts can silence some critics and he saved his club some runs in the process.
Coming into the three game series against the Rays, Bogaerts has been tearing the cover off the ball at the plate. The right-handed slugger has hit .524 with 11 hits, four doubles while driving in three RBIs.
