WooSox place Yu Chang on the 7-day IL after collision on Friday night
The WooSox have placed infielder Yu Chang on the 7-day with a concussion, the team announced.
Chang was involved in a scary collision in the fourth inning with Norfolk Tides’ Maverick Handley.
With one out in the inning, Handley hit a ground ball to WooSox third baseman Bobby Dalbec. The 28-year-old made a backhand stop on a grounder heading up the third base line.
Dalbec fired the ball across the diamond, the ball tailing in the direction of the runner, Chang attempted to make the play and collided with the runner.
Both players remained down on the field for some time, Chang was finally lifted and walked to the WooSox clubhouse by trainers and EMTs.
Initially, the infielder was going to be transported to a local area hospital, but he remained on site in the clubhouse.
Chang has played 20 MiLB games this season, he rehabbed with the WooSox and Portland Sea Dogs following left hamate surgery prior to rejoining the Red Sox.
The 28-year-old was designated for assignment in mid-August and cleared waivers. Chang was outrighted to Triple-A Worcester.
While with Boston, Chang hit just .162 with a .552 OPS in 39 games (including 32 starts). He struck out 34 times in 112 plate appearances (30.4%).
