WooSox lefty joins the Red Sox in Miami ahead of series finale with the Marlins
Red Sox lefty reliever Cam Booser has rejoined the club ahead of the series finale with the Marlins, but he wasn’t activated, according to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo.
Booser had been with Triple-A Worcester since June 24, after he was optioned along with righty Brad Keller. It’s likely that he’ll travel to New York ahead of the three-game series in the Bronx that begins on Friday.
Unless someone on the 26-man roster is placed on the injured list, Booser isn’t eligible for the active roster until July 9. That’ll mark 15 days since he was initially optioned back to Worcester.
While with the Red Sox, Booser went 1-2 with a 3.21 ERA and one save with 33 strikeouts to six walks over 28 innings.
If the Red Sox add Booser following the game with the Marlins, left-handed reliever Bailey Horn seems likely to head back to the WooSox.
“He’s going to be a part of this,” said manager Alex Cora after Booser was demoted back to Triple-A. “There’s no promises, of course. You can’t tell a player he’ll be back in 15 days or back in a month. But the way this game goes and, obviously, his ability, there’s a good chance he’s going to be part of it at one point this season.
“The strike-throwing is real. That’s something he’s struggled with throughout his career. He can get righties out, which is important. As far as preparation and how structured he is, he’s one of the best I’ve ever seen.”
