WooSox lefty Bailey Horn continues to look strong after two more scoreless and hitless innings
WooSox left-hander Bailey Horn is one of the first pitchers to join the Red Sox organization that was previously with Craig Breslow during his time with the Cubs.
Breslow was the Cubs’ senior vice president of pitching and assistant general manager from 2019-2013 before becoming the Red Sox chief baseball officer. During that time, he put together a starting-pitching infrastructure in Chicago’s farm system. Horn was with the Cubs after he was drafted in the fifth round in 2020 out of Auburn.
“I was with him with the Cubs, and everything we did over there was awesome,” Horn said about Breslow while talking to Beyond the Monster. “He does a great job as far as development goes and helping everyone become their best. He is great, and every interaction I have had with him has been awesome. I am super grateful to be back in his organization.”
After spending time in the Cubs and White Sox farm system, Horn was acquired at the end of April after he was designated for assignment. Since joining the WooSox, Horn has been lights out on the mound.

The southpaw has thrown six scoreless and hitless frames in four outings with Worcester, including two innings on Tuesday night against the Norfolk Tides. Horn has struck out six and walked three for the WooSox. While in the White Sox’ Triple-A affiliate, Charlotte, he allowed 13 runs in 10 1/3 innings.
“I think he looks great so far,” WooSox manager Chad Tracy said of Horn. “There has been a lot of focused work in the bullpen for him centered around getting the ball over the plate. He had a lot of walks in Charlotte and had too many deep counts. The focus was about getting his stuff in and around the zone as much as possible.”
Horn is currently on the Red Sox 40-man roster and is a strong candidate to make his major league debut this season, according to Baseball America.
The 26-year-old is seeing success after throwing his cutter more with the Red Sox. He’s been cutter-heavy in four appearances with Worcester, per Baseball Savant. Boston has been encouraging their pitchers to use their off-speed pitches more than their heaters in outings.
Horn is excited to be with the Red Sox and is hopeful Baseball America’s assessment is accurate and he’ll end up pitching in Boston with the Green Monster to his back.
“I have thought about it,” Horn said of playing at Fenway. “It would be a dream, and obviously it’s my goal. To be here now with the Red Sox would be a dream come true. The environment here is awesome, and everything they do up there is awesome.”
